Xbox 360 problems!!??

My bloke had been using his xbox 360 on live up until last week with no problems, last night he tried to get on live but it keeps saying payment options! His original membership was paid for by his dads credit card and was paid for this year but he also bought a membership card from argos incase his dad stopped paying it for him. This is what we umed had happened but it will not accept the code on the scratch panel of the card and keeps saying payment options. He has tried changing his user name to no avail, please help thank you.
