How can I win this girl over another guy?

So ya I'm in college and there's this girl I've been hanging out with at school for the last few weeks and I've started to like her. But while we were talking yesterday this other guy comes up and starts talking to her so she introduces us. The guy seems like a big tool and desperate.. Her phone died earlier and he came out saying something like "There u are I left u like 5 voice mails trying to figure out where u were. And apparently he was getting ready to leave another one when he found her so to try to be funny he left one while standing right there. Tell me that doesn't sound desperate? And honestly, this guy is ugly as sin. I don't think I'm that great looking (i'm probly about average and more cute than hot) so I should have him beat there. But what are ways to make her like me instead of this d bag? Obviously I'm going to give her space and not bombard her with voice mails like him, but what else? I think she might like me idk though. I was going to ask her tomorrow if she wanted to see a movie this weekend...
