Question about "out of control kids"?

My almost 5 year old son is almost always out of control! I tried and timeouts but they didn't seem to work. Now I just have serious talks with him and he seems to understand better. He is getting sooo much better now. Training your children comes from when they are infants. If they are teens now and acting out of control, sometimes it's just too late.....
